ABOUT MoHAM FOUNDATION

Purpose

MoHAM is a community service organization that was setup for Malayali families of Kerala origin living in and around Mountain House, California. Established in 2007 as a small gathering of 10 families in a house, it has grown to 250+ families and community gatherings that routinely fill large auditoriums.

Vision

Our vision includes promoting Malayalam language and teaching our children the importance of the various cultural festivals celebrated by their ancestors.

Mission

We intend to spread awareness that helps foster the culture and traditions of the state of Kerala, India to the next generation.

cultural background

A land of cultural diversity, Kerala is made up of various religions, communities, regional cultures and language variations. The cultural variety of Kerala was created by its unique geographic features as it lies between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats.

Kerala has birthed and nurtured a plethora of art forms over a thousand years.The place is also popular as the land of festivals. They can be divided into 4 main categories: Performing Art Forms, Ritual Art Forms, Martial Arts and Folk Arts.

Kerala cuisine offers dishes prepared using fish, poultry and unique vegetarian dishes like aviyal with rice as a typical accompaniment. Chillies, curry leaves, coconut, mustard seeds, turmeric, tamarind, asafoetida are also used.

Kerala is a state located on the Southwest edge of India. It is a narrow strip of land and lies between the Western Ghats Mountain range on the Eastern side and the Arabian Sea on the Western. The state is lined by coconut trees and beautiful beaches.
